Learn to tie your own,, dead easy and you can't blame anybody else for badly tied hooks etc,

invest in a matchman hooktier for your small spade-ends. Anything bigger, learn the grinner or palomar, search on this site there's articles on both

I've never had any problems with Drennan Super Spade hooks to nylon which I often use for tench in the sizes 12 and 14 to 4.4 lbs.

Very good they are.

Nah, don't do it. Self tied every time. As Bob says Matchman Hooktier for spade ends and grinner for eyed hooks.

I agree about the hooks Ron, the DSspades are brilliant as are the Super Specialists and the Drennan Boilie and Continental Boilie hooks but I'd prefer to tie my own purely from a guaranteed reliability factor.

There's nothing stopping you tieing some hooks to nylon yourself before you go fishing and storing them in small plastic wallets or on one of the many commercial holders. Plus it gives you more options as to line type and breaking strain/diameter you match to each hook.

Infact, working my way through my tackle boxes I seem to use more Drennan hooks than anything else! Cheap, bloody good, no-nonsense hooks made for every situation I reckon.

:) I know exactly what you mean BN, hence I find myself fiddling around with a torch at 3 in the morning changing a hooklength after yet another eel!! I just assumed some people might have more spare time than us mere mortals.
