Hooks for mini boilies

Hi

Have just bought myself an 8mm Gardner rolling table to make some mini boilies to use as a particle feed along with hemp and partiblend. I intend using these and hand rolled 10mm's as Hobart's on the hair rig.

Can anyone recommend a suitable hook size and pattern to use as in smaller sizes I'm finding it impossible to get the line (8 & 12lb Dacron) back through the eye when tying the knotless knot.

Size 8 Pallatrax – the hook.

Never had a problem getting braid through this twice.

Dacron is a lovely hook-link material but there are now much better alternatives available to you. Drennan sink link and Korda braids are very good (not that I bother with hook-links any more for barbel fishing preferring to whip a hair onto my size 8 Pallatrax and then fish 10lb line straight through).

Do you fancy rolling me a few kilos of 8millers? LOL :wh

Sorry Sherlock,but why are you using dacron,as said drennan sinkbraid or similar is a better material,but I stopped using that years ago,opting in the main for Drennan super specialist 10lbs bs for hooklinks,as for 10mm'ers I would opt for a size 12 hook,my choice,a guru mwgb,to use dacron you need an anchor,not a hook....

Whitty. I've just come back to it after 4 years away (got a big garden that needed renovating) so I'm using what I've got. I've read all forums praising sinkbraid, but I'm quite happy with the dacron for the time being.
Re the hook size, just finished rolling my first batch. Turned out looking smaller than I thought 8mm would. Have put them next to a couple of size 12 pattern and reckon for a single bait might be better on a 14 or even 16. Had a look at a picture of the Guru hooks and they look like they've got a good sized eye so will give them a whirl. Can see me catching a lot of roach!!

Benny, re rolling you a kilo, would love too, however with the size of the table and the size the baits come out at, you might be waiting till next Christmas by which time I might be living in the shed cos for some reason my other half doesn't like the smell of shrimp paste on the kitchen side.

If your using them now,I think the roach might lose interest in them,but it you do double up on them,it's all down to the responses from your venues barbel,they can be funny and in my opinion a lighter coloured boilie may well bring a better response than the normal dark coloured fishmeals,even if the flavours are not recognised for barbel,ie fruit,or sweet baits...

Got some of the Guru MGWB hooks and the size 12 seems spot on. Eye big enough to tie knotless knot.
Re roach I was semi joking, however I can see it being a decent approach when warmer weather returns. River I fish has hordes of small roach, dace and bleak which just shred maggots and casters on feeder before anything bigger can get to the bait.
Re recipes, I've done the fishmeal and shrimp paste, and am also going to do a blueberry and pineapple birdfood boilie (with evaporated milk and clove and black pepper essential oils ) No idea what I'm doing but having fun experimenting.

When I'm on holiday in Christchurch the roach at times are a nightmare,taking two 10mm'ers no problem,even dace,one year I fished two 15mm'ers to get a bait to the decent fish,now there are some clonking great roach,but fish of 6oz on 12lb line is taking the pee...
