I don 't know what they are like nowadays but near you is the Roding and the Lea. There always was barbel and other good fishing right in the town centre of Hertford. The Roding was good for chub etc. If Arthur Two Sheds sees this post he may be able to point you to a club to join.

Thanks for the reply John, I live in the Debden/ Loughton.

I've tried Roding few times it's such a dodgy river very low loads fallen trees etc lots of Eastern Europeans also which don't help.

Great idea....nicely compliments Binka of the Week which we started running without realising it ! I'd have been in last week...zander bite,bled like a stuck pig.

Went back looking a lot happier than I did. I really must learn not to stick my fingers in a zanders mouth. Teeth like bloody needles.

Somebody told me ( probably Big Dave) that their mouths or teeth contain an enzyme that acts like an anti- coagulant ......so if you do get bit the damned wound won't stop bleeding. I can certainly vouch for that. It was like an abbatoir and all from a really quite small bite... 3 perfect little puncture wounds. I swear it was pre- meditated too, the little barstid !

Anyway....get back on topic or you'll get me yellow carded !
