Yesterday I prepared for a club do on the canal today. Got most of the necessities packed but couldn't find my short landing net handle?
After searching the obvious places I decided to sit down and think where I last used it. Pinpointed it to Halloween Saturday 2 weeks ago.
I was on the Colne locally and took my Hardy Marksman 14ft float rod :eek:mg:
Seems I left it in the road I parked in. Gutted...
Alarm went off this morning at 6:30 for my match and the wind was gusting so hard I went back to bed...Later I went down to the road where I had parked and attached a notice of my loss on a post with my number.
I'll visit my local police station tomorrow as a last chance hope that it's been handed in....

Finally managed to get out for a few hours this weekend. Got soaked to the bone about ten minutes after I started fishing and had a struggle not to be blown in the water. Why on earth do I make myself believe I prefer autumn fishing....

Forgot about it all once I found a small pond, about three hundred yards from my front door which got me three pikes in next to no time. The last four casts all resulted in strikes and netted two pikes. No monsters but lovely fish, neatly hooked and all.

Completely forgot about the rain and misery and strolled home smiling foolishly :).

Hi Peytr,
I reckon you must have read some FM members fond memories of Autumnal fishing - and believed the hogwash!:eek:mg: - Dwaas! [Het spijt me, mijnheer]
You should know better than to read everything that is in these pages! :D

Oh joy of joys…

Where’s a troop of bikini clad supermodels with a grudge against each other when you need ‘em?

In the absence of a few rounds of fantasy mud wrestling I just had to make do with the fishing on a river that was the colour of chocolate, ironic really considering the amount of time I’ve spent moaning about the clarity.

The river dropped, then it went back up again, then the heavens opened for a good hour and a half and then the sun came out!

Managed a few fish with a couple of half decent bream topping the bill followed by a handful of chub, a dozen or so small perch and a single small roach all to trotted worm on the long rod with a bit of chop fed in firm balls of groundbait…

Could’ve been worse I suppose, at least none of those supermodels I’d written to previously with the invite of the mud wrestling have replied to decline so there’s technically still a chance for the next outing :)

Roll on Spring… :w

Nice to be back bankside after a carless week followed by a weeks heavy family committments.
The tidal Trent looked decidedly uninviting, big waves, devilishly strong winds coming downstream and towards my bank made float fishing a non starter so out came the big guns and plenty of lead but after losing three bits of end gear on bottom snags and rain beginning to threaten I geared down as fast as possible, just in time too as leaving the fields and heading for the A1 it was lashing down.
I had decided to fish a small trent tributary where I had found a few barbel previously, again with the float gear.
I had to wait for the rain to stop then headed downstream with only the minimum of gear, rod, landing net, bait and a few odds n sods.
I plodded away for an hour for nothing but I couldnt help noticing heavy black, ominous looking stormclouds from where I had been an hour earlier so took a foto and sent it to Binka knowing he was under it while I was in sunshine with a hi protective floodbank behind me.
Just afterwards my float sank and On striking hooked what I thought was a chub but it turned out to be a lovely dark perch of 2-7, a delight on such a bad day.
It was still pretty hard going but I stuck to the task deciding that despite my growing belief that extra water, lower temperatures had maybe stalled berties desire to chase a bait as previously but there might still be a chance at last light.
It happened, four thirty and with just a half dozen trots left at best the float dissapears and I,m into a Barbel that heads off down the narrow little stream but soon turns, and coming towards me finds an unseen snag mid swim, game over--- - ollocks !!!

The weather, my glass back and the rivers going up and down like the undergarments of the proverbial ladies of negotiable affection mean that I've not been out much recently. As the weather wasn't forecast to be too bad and the wind had dropped a touch, I grabbed the chance to get out.

Fished the roach pool again and ended up really scratching for bites. When they eventually came the bites were ridiculously shy. I managed to winkle out twenty three roach and a bonus tench. The best of the roach was bang on 1lb with a couple of back ups at 15oz. The tench was only 2lb 2oz but was rather interesting on a six elastic. Only one rogue carp showed up but I didn't stand a cat in hell's chance.

Nice to get out before the winter arrives at the weekend. If the river levels sort themselves out, and the winds drop a bit, I'll get back to the grayling soon.

Where waters meet
Earlier this week I went out on the river with some medium sized lures, hoping to tempt a Pike; a couple of small jacks both came out of the water to smash down and swallow them.

Today I went to a mill stream with a 6cm gudgeon patterned soft plastic & caught the slimest 4lb Perch i've ever seen. :eek:mg:

The 3rd river 20lber of the season graced the net today after snaffling a large herring.

Best start to a piking season for some time.

After 2weeks of grieving the loss of my Hardy Marksman 14" float rod and the weather, I was happy when my old mate Son of Meldrew phoned me and suggested a day out today. We met by the GUC at Kings Langley and picked a nice bend. Being a canalised section of the river Gade it had a nice lazy tow on it. I opted for 4m whip and punch while SOM fished worm on a link leger.
I started catching gudgeon followed by some small roach.

I was catching roach steadily for the first couple of hours until SOM hooked this trout...

This was not counted in our mini match. I was still winning until he landed a nice chub around 2lb 4 followed by another of 3lb 12.

Game over....

Had one last fling at the perch water today. As the lane is too dangerous to drive now, I loaded up my newly acquired barrow and hoofed it.(see my thread in bait box about getting knackered)
The tip went round twice. First one about a pound then when playing the second one I knew it was the 3lb er I have wanted. WRONG. 2lb 14 ozs but very very welcome on such a bitterly cold day.
