I can find no mention of these rods anywhere.

To the left I had one of the best days roaching ever. The water was highly coloured and a lot of water was coming in from the backwater by the lock.
I think the roach had come down from this backwater which cannot be fished.
It was a lumpy roach a chuck up a pound and a half down the track.
Keith Arthur was fishing to my left and he said he had never seen the like of it there before.
Anyway back to the topic HDYGO! There were gales and wind today so I took the opportunity to do what I have been meaning to do.
I visited 3 rivers and a canal at various places. Spots I have been meaning to investigate for some time.
It was very informative and worth the day and 150 miles spent.
Certainly some spots I shall be fishing to make a change.

Battled the breeze for a couple of hours Saturday. Horrible for presentation and I never really worked it out. Even so a few roach, including some networthy critters, odd perchlet and dace. Fed hemp initially but could not get any regular response. Punch produced the better fish, flouro pinkie accounted for the perch. No shock there.
Glad to be out and pleased to see some more flow but still clear to the bottom. More rain needed yet. Most of bait left over so I'll probably have to go again soon. Somewhere with a big tree to windward methinks.

Club fixture today at Windsor on the Thames. Drew in my favoured area but found the river tap water clear.. Set up my usual slider which today was one of my newly acquired ones which I found on line.
This was the 5gr version ( you get 5/6/and 7gr, two of each for £10) 4.5gr olivette and a couple of droppers. Hook today a 16 Drennan fine wire tied to 2:8lb flouro carbon for stiffness.
Balled in 3kilos of Black turbo and super roach gb about a third of the way across, 8’ deep and a steady flow.
The downstream wind was horrendous and made presentation very difficult. First Chuck with maggot and a nice roach.
Caught steadily although the fish did come and go at times, another couple of balls of gb soon kick started it and the fish followed.
Mostly roach in the 4-8oz range with a few up to 12oz and a few perch
Come the end I weighed in 15lb3oz which got me 2nd overall....
16:8:0 won it..

Went yesterday,fished the float in the same peg,but the wind made it horrendous for presentation and because of the nature of the venue a bigger float was out of the question,anyway I had 10/15 roach between 4/8ozs a dace around 8ozs,some gobies and a chub on the float before it really blew up,so on with the feeder,it was a struggle with me adding 3 more chub to around three and a quarter,turned out even the flyer barbel pegs fished poorly,with two mates getting in them at around 1/2pm,one had two,the other three,the anglers previously in them only having one between them,so they said,the river flushing with cold rain on Wednesday night,then falling,with temps dropping every day will make things more difficult until they get used to it...

Had several hours trotting later this afternoon "disaster struck", pretty much as I was about to walk back to the car I had another last cast as you do, I wish I hadn't ???.
I was using my 14 foot daiwa Dave Harrell RS PF rod and as I cast the last few inches of the rod just collapsed !
I was actually showing someone I know how to wallise cast and doing it slowly and precisely.
I'll contact daiwa, if I can, and ask them how much for a new tip section, either that or try selling the bottom and middle section on ebay.....and people slag off acolytes for breaking
This rod retailed at 450 effin quid and has been treated with kid gloves, still has the placcy coverring on the corks.
Anyhow, before the crappy rod broke I had a number of roach and small chub with a couple of larger chub to 4lb'ish.
I really do think that's the last daiwa rod i'll ever buy!

I'm afraid I have negative findings of Daiwa and Shimano rods and their attitudes to breakages,other companies are far more understanding of possible blank strength,especially in new rods,shame as Daiwa are not slow charging top dollar for their rods....

Saturday was an 40 peg open in aid of prostrate screening on the Warks Avon at Barford. it was a really cold start and the wind was horrible, at least my peg on the backwater was sheltered, albeit hardly moving. I put 9:14 on the scsles, a mixture of decent perch on the maggot and small roach on caster and hemp. I also caught the first Bullhead that I’ve had in about 20 years! I learnt after that there are more perch under a bush upstream and across, the one bit of the peg that I didn’t fish as it was 2ft deep and I could see the bottom!! You are allowed to go upstream at Barford as the pegs are well distanced (Barford rules). That catch was enough for 4th.
sunday was the Joe Burrows charity match at Hereford on the Wye. 70 good souls supporting this. There were two pegs left when I got there, and I got 97 on the Tennis Courts opposite the bishops palace and cathedral. This peg is only fishable on a really low river ... it’s under knee depth to more than mid way and then there’s a 5 foot deep channel along the far bank where all the flow is. I waded out and set up platform to attach my keepnet to and create a ”station” to stand next to whilst fishing (terminal tackle and spare bait etc. I’d been told that the previous (riverfest) match had seen the chap on this peg get blitzed by bleak and tiny dace ... so I set up two waggler rods and a feeder ... with two of the rods set up to fish luncheon meat to avoid the bits. I never picked up the feeder rod and changed the size 12 on the power waggler to a size 16 after an hour ... I never saw a small fish and neither did anyone in that section... 2 cold nights must have moved them on to Belmont. Nice steady day catching chub all through, about 6 every hour (I did lose count). Fed 4 pints of casters and 2 of hemp ... the fish were in the swim so there was no need to go mad. I weighed 128 pounds and 2 ounces for a nice win and my best ever match weight (By some distance). The chub were of a very good stamp, up to pushing 6 pounds, good fun on the float in that flow.
oh ... and I had one more that jumped out of the keepnet, despite me having the landing net laid across the top!
The possibility of drawing that kind of peg is why we go match fishing on the Wye ...
worn out after that!

it was a heck of a peg on the day Alan ... there are a few like that on the Wye when it’s low and clear - the chub all shoal up. second was 96 pounds ... off the black wall at Breinton ... which has had several ton up weights before now.
Found my shelter amongst the trees and found some fish. Different river but same lack of flow as Saturday. Fed hemp and bread for a good run of mostly roach on 5m whip with 2bb waggler. An early chub of nearly 2lbs took some patience to tame on 0.6 hook length.
Also put in some dark groundbait around a third of the way across to try with rod. Plenty of bites out there too but lots of bits. 2oz rather than the 4-6 ozs roach under the hemp. Unsurprisingly I focused on the bigger ones. Unfortunately so did a pike which eventually had them off elsewhere.
Only managed a single roach on tare. I'm sure they were taking hemp but having left my glasses behind I wasn't up to hooking those. I struggle at the best of times.
Got plenty of bait still so clear a couple of jobs and I'll be out again.

Was out today on a 7 mile mooch around the river rother and chesterfield canal !
The river is still low and fishing is hard had 3 minnows on maggots the barbel wasn’t interested in the meat or the pellets offered to them !
We eventually came off the river bank inside a old works of some kind and eventually made are was to the road and towards the canal .
Where I fished a load of different pegs all the way back to where we started catching roach and perch on the way had a few casts with the pike lures but nothing came of that yet again !
So we must go again because I’m not being beaten by a pike the barbel that’s a different ball game and eventually one will be in my net !

With the end of the season looming, I'd wanted to get out for Trout over the weekend, but it was very bright and windy here, so I spent some time in the garden instead.
Today looked good, so after a bit of early work re scheduling, I was on the river by 9.30.
Low and clear, and very little fly life, but quite a lot of these wafting about....
A quick rummage in the fly box, and I found an old imitation, albeit with only one wing, but it had most of it's legs and looked ok to me.
Nothing was rising, but the Daddy fished through likely spots was getting a decent response, so the Trout thought it looked ok as well!
A few better ones in the 12 to 13 inch bracket...
....and a good few Chublets...
All in all a very enjoyable day.

A nice day on my deep res. on the waggler dead reds an d a pinch of worm. Slow start in the cold wind but managed to get the roach going. Had a nice net of them along with some small perch and rudd.
However I managed a perch of 2lb 2 ozs and a small tench. The tench is particularly welcome as we stocked the res with a couple of hundred small tench about 6-8 inches a few years ago and they disappeared like small tench do. They may just be ready to start being catchable. This one went 1lb 10 ozs.

The river was to high for trotting today so I visited a club pool. The temp's have dropped right off and it felt even colder because of the strong north north westerly winds. I think it was about 15 degrees when I arrived and 12 degrees as I left.
Anyhow, I had gone with the intention of catching carp as I wanted to put a bend in a new rod. I freelind meat and bread and caught quite a few.
I had one smaller fish which may or not be a true crucian....
Hi Ian, nice rod and nice carp. Toying with a centrepin again just for this kind of scenario. I had one of those rods and moved it on

I think it was a aventa, they're excellent.
I really liked the action of the rod. It's 2.25 test curve.
Out of curiosity, what was the test curve of the rod you go shut of? Reason I ask is because I was thinking of getting another one in 2.75 test, but, i'm jubious that the action may not suit me in higher tests.
