Intriguing Float Adaptation

I noticed this earlier whilst browsing on Ebay...

I fish slider Avons and find they work well, ok they're not the best thing for holding back but for running and tripping through they're just as good as their fixed counterparts but I found the additional hinged sight bobs quite intriguing.

What do you think he was onto here?

Maybe an additional 'stabiliser' aid for turbulent boils that suck the standard float under, it looks as though the hinge would close upon a bite and the standard float would then submerge and not offer the full resistance that the additional 'bobs' would need to submerge them?

I wondered if Barbel had something to do with it but on reflection they really don't need that degree of finesse with regards to bite indication so I'm maybe thinking along the lines of Roach with something like breadflake.

Anyone got any theories or seen anything similar?

This rings a bell from the distant past. I think it was to do with stability . There was another old fashion idea with avons. The fluted float. I think I have one somewhere .
