A lot of Angling clubs will net waters for other clubs ,or waters that landowners want netting.
They will keep a lot of these fish to grow on in stock ponds for either their own use or to sell on.
Clubs requiring fish will sometimes use these clubs as a first port of call. And the fish are usually cheaper than fish farms. The EA are involved and the fish are health checked.

Last time we bought tench they were £18 per pound plus delivery plus blooming VAT.
So cheap at £12 a lb Pete. I suspect this is the price for 2lb fish which are also in short supply and are not really what is wanted. Breeding fish sounds an interesting pursuit. I understand that wanting and getting are very different.
