Landing net handle length

What is your preferred length of landing net handle?

Fixed, telescopic or push in?

I prefer the korum handle 3m I think

But I use a telescope for lure fishing when roaming

Anything but one of those wretched telescopic glass ones..the bung on the end falls off or gets gets lost or you tread on it and break it.

Im enjoying using an alumnium one with a push in extending part that takes it to about 8 or 9ft i think, but i dont need to fish high banks with it.

Telescopic handles are of course useful. As per previous threads you will struggle to beat the Drennan Super Specialist.

Depends on the length of the rod but in general I find you loose less fish at the net if you have a decent long handle .
Fiber glass is a waste of time first time you tread on it it's wrecked , unless one of the very good thick ones.
Alluminuim is far better ,my favorite is a cheap 3 peice though i don't extend it all that much it is proberbly out to about 11ft most of the time .
Always have a net float on it then you can through it out wilst playing the fish and just leave it there untill you are ready.
I always have a very long bank stick in my bag to act as a spare net handle as an emergency measure since i don't want to have to pack up for lack of net handle.

Length is entirely dependant on the application. I tend to use put over for match style fishing, fixed for carping and telescopic for roaming or barbelling.

What about diameter at each end?

Place a ruler or tape measure at any point around the edge of the circle.


Extend the ruler or tape measure straight across the center point of the circle to the opposite side.


Note the point on the ruler or tape measure at the opposite edge of the circle, directly across from the starting point. This is the diameter of the of whichever end you choose.

Do you have big hands?. If you play tennis do you use a thick-handled or thiiner grip racket?. Will you be looking to throw the landing net pole like a spear?.

I dont think it matters. The only problem with alumnium ones is that they can sink - the tip earlier to have a float attached is a good idea.

I am using a 2.88metre old Shakespeare telescopic No. 7618 must be over 30 years old, although I have had a few since and been toying on a new one for a year now but just cant settle on one I really like. I also have a shorter specimen handle.
