Long Handled fishing Nets

So I have joined a club, had proper look round my nearest couple and one of them have a fair few swims with quite a big drop to the water.

I have a big net with a 2m handle the other 2 are 1.8m and I think for my son at least he needs something longer and I am a short stop at 5ft 8 as well.

Looking for suggestions for at least 1 but maybe 2 decent Long handled nets that don't break the bank as I always find handles a difficult choice, either 2 flimsy or 2 heavy.

I'm sure you are referring to net handles rather than nets as the two are sold seperately. I have a Drennan Twistlock 3m handle which is robust, well made and reasonably light. I also have an NGT 2m telescopic, a Middy 2-2.5 m telescopic ,a Maver 2m and a Shakespeare 3m Omni 3m telescopic . The last 4 cost about the same as the Drennan so you can decide. The Omi is on offer at Bobco for £9 so a bargain. I usually set up 2 nets one short and one long with different size nets. A perch or roach just too big to swing to hand looks silly in a carp net. I keep one or two in each quiver I have so I always have one. The NGT are good value and they do a travel one for around £8. I would buy at least 3 in different types and lengths so you can mix and match.

Matrix horizon 4mtr net pole is around 60 quid, other companies will have a 4mtr.

I have a Fox Speedflow 2 net the medium one, 2 smaller nets good with 1.8m handles and then a 42" net with a 1.8m handle.

Some of the swims at Kingsbridge have big drops and my son's arms are short atm

Realistically I need another bigger net with a longer handle so we have a larger net each as the fish are bigger in this lake.

The probably a smaller net with Long Handle as there is a good mix of fish in there.

I like the telescopic net handles for transportation. My holders take to 2m so something that breaks down or extends would be my preference

You will struggle having a play with a variety of net poles but you can ask fellow anglers . I think Middy poles are good value and Tricast make a top quality one.

Have a look at the Tricast range on their site. They do a long pole.

Wessex Angling have a couple of Drennan landing net poles in stock (at least, they were), the Red Range and the Super Specialist twist Lock (3metres, RRP £54.99). Both worth a look.

You won't find Tricast down here!

Another vote for the drennan Super Specialist-good value at the price and wont go all mardy on you if you step on it accidently.

I have a drennan twistlock net pole
and another one or two I forget their names but to be honest I find my cheap telescopic handles to be my favourites. I'm talking about a tenners worth of pole and one of mine has had many years of use up to now and is still ok, infact I used it today.
I don't think I would ever pay more than 20 quid for a landing net staff as the cheap ones are every bit as good imo.
I think the NGT telescopic net staffs are well worth a look. Here's one worth a look...

I've had a Gardner Specialist landing net handle for almost 10yrs and it's still perfect. It's not a lightweight but it's very strong. I think it extends to 3m.

The Dartford angling centre extending one isn't bad,3m long and rigid,I have one,plus two Drennan twistlocks,only ever have one set up at a time though....

Has anyone used the Drennan Acolyte handle, or Preston response, or Any top range Daiwa such as Air ,Tourney ,Airity.
These go to 4 metres,

I haven't Mark,in fact I see very little use in a 4m landing net pole,apart from the odd swim where banks are very high,or steep,or weed margins,the modern day trend of netting fish at maximum range in match fishing,chasing the fish is not how I think it should be done,chasing a big weight of fish is all that matters. Strangely I prefer as short a length as is possible,thus the extending type pole is my preference...

Some of the swims I fish are weedy, that's why I was after another longer length handle, I have two at the moment, one ( Daiwa Tourney,early model)I can use at various lengths due to multiple threaded sections,so can go from a match style handle to a power style handle the other only has one threaded section.(Maver) The Maver is take apart as obviously the Daiwa is.
I am looking for a more lightweight one than the above.
I am not even going to consider a MAP 1001 handle, priced at nearly £200, supposed to be lightest and slimmest on the market,

I bought the Gunki Street Fishing 4m landing net. So far it has landed many barbel to 7lb without drama.

These are not cheap (try Angling Direct) but quality seems good. Daiwa do the slightly cheaper Daiwa ISO landing net handle, but you may have to look to France for a supplier (Pecheur.com)

Very compact, the Gunki fits into either my main tackle bag or share the sleeve I have a telescopic rod in.

Screw fitting matches UK nets - beware some Asian street fishing handles have an odd size screw thread that needs an adaptor!

Be careful with any net handle, especially multi section telescopics, use the handle to draw the fish towards you then lift the net frame. These long street style handle get quite small diameter at the net end!

I’ve had a few, but the Gardner one is the best I’ve had. The Drennan Twist and Lock can get problematic with the mechanism. I’ve had Barbel to nearly 15lb without issue.
