Hi, just wondered if anyone can help. What would be the max hook size to use on a power float rod? I'm thinking Acolyte Plus. Would a size 8 carp hook be OK or something with a smaller diameter wire?

Cheers in advance

Puddle pigs! As you know I don't really float fish. I think I'll probably be using a size 12 Drennan Wide gape Specialist for more of what I want to do. At least I know a size 8 is possible - you're a star!

It really does depend on the bait you’re using !
If you are using pellets smaller hooks than an 8 would be required.
But yes size 8 will work with the rod....

On my last outing to the estate I started on an 18 fishing either corn or wheat and finished on a size 6 with a large piece of bread flake which enticed a tench.

It's like everything else, you may struggle to strike through a lump of meat in winter with an 8,especially at range, suck it and see is my advice...

I use size 2 Owner bait hooks for large blobs of bread paste to catch carp with my Drennan Acolyte Plus or Hardy Marksman Specimen Float rod.!

All the best
