Pole Float Weights & Depth of swim

Im struggling to try and work out roughly what weight of float i need to be using with certain depths of water, I do know theres no need for a 2gr float in 6 inches of water.

Im struggling with things like in 5 feet of water the ideal weight is y, 7 feet of water, the ideal weight is X.

My floats range from 0.1g up to 1g. I tend to fish still waters and cannals for all species including carp.


Can anyone give me a general guide??

Kelvin in good conditions go for 0.1 of a gram for each foot of water. A half gram float in 5 feet etc. This can change according to wind conditions, bait being used on the hook etc.
