Enjoy your retirement to the full Graham, well earned indeed. Take with you the pride of what you achieved and the gratitude of many.

Tight Lines and good luck with whatever you do.

Out of 1577 unique visitors we had to the forums yesterday, only 38 could be bothered to post on this thread dedicated to the old goat.

The remaining 1539 either
  1. Couldn't be bothered
  2. hated the man
  3. or said "Who the hell's Graham Marsden?"

Just reminds you of how you're really appreciated, doesn't it? :D

Or what about this -
The Indispensable Man

Sometimes when you're feeling important,
Sometimes when your ego's in bloom,
Sometimes when you take it for granted
You're the best qualified in the room.

Sometimes when you feel that your leaving
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow this simple instruction
And see how it humbles your soul.

Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hands in right up to your wrists,
Take them out and the hole that remains there,
Is a measure of how you'll be missed.

You may splash all about as you enter,
You may stir round the water galore,
But when you take out your hands you will notice
That the water looks just as before.

The Moral of this is quite simple,
Always perform to the best that you can,
Be proud of yourself, but remember
There's no indispensable man!

I'd best stop now before I give the old s*d a complex. :D :D :D

Hi All,

There's another quote which is far more apt; You never know what you have until its gone.

Now fully taking on board that no one is indispensable some are more indispensable than others.

Graham will be missed enormously, Fishing Magic is one of the few forums were a true Angling Legend has been actively involved.

People like Graham do not grow on trees, he will be a massive loss to Fishing Magic.

All the best,

Steve.

Thanks Graham and Steve. All joking apart I've never thought I was indispensable and in fact I reckon that if the site can recruit a younger man who is still fishing as I used to fish a few years ago, and has a little knowledge of writing and editing, FM will be the better for it.

If you FILL a bucket with water and then put your hands in then take them out as suggested in the poem the water Will Not look like it did before - some will have been spilt if only a bit.

Now that might seem pedantic but let me explain - yes with GM gone FM will change but hopefully only slightly and yes his absence will be noticed - if only a bit;)

Or maybe it's because it's hidden away in a part of the forum, that by their own admission, some people don't visit very much because it's full of nutters, and shouldn't have a place on a fishing website--or because it's in a part of the forum that is 'members only'

I think it would be better posted in the "FM NEWS & FEATURE COMMENTS" section

All the very best wishes for a long and very active retirement.

You've played a blinder with FM, we all owe you more than can ever be repaid. Thank you.

Good point, Ed, or do you think he's still keeping it a little quiet in case he changes his mind - yet again. :D :wh

I suggested keeping him on as a figurehead on a retainer of say, £100,000, but he says why should he take a pay cut? :p

Graham,

All the very best for a long and happy retirement, and thankyou for being the driving force behind the most informative and friendly fishing site around.

Oops - late as usual!

Glad to see you've got your priorities right at last Graham. Remember there's a standing invitation to come up and fish some proper rivers!

All the best mate.

Very best wishes for your "retirment" Graham. For me, FM has been a major influence on my return to angling and I've met some fine anglers, many of whom I'm proud to call close friends. You alone are responsible for creating, nuturing and reviving this crazy medium, congratulations on a fine achievement. Now go and enjoy "your" time.

As for my very tiny contribution, it's been a pleasure. I'm currently without a workable PC (trying to type this on a crappy notebook) and I've not been fishing since November!
