Know the section well and you are right the fishing isn't worth that. Is is a case of trying to squeeze anglers into buying season tickets?
Maybe for ?10 they are going to beef up security in the lane where you have to aprk. Last time I was there someone tried to break into the van we were in,couldn't get door open so bent all the windscreen wipers.

David,

I would be grateful if you could post a link to middlewichs website.

Its difficult to see how they could make the carpark safer as its a public road. I have alot of sympathy thou as my last car was done parked next the canal at Billinge a few years ago :( One thing I do is always leave my glove box open, parcel shelf removed and front off CD player etc so they can see (if they have a brain) that its not worth breaking in.

Since the Croxton Lane incident last year, Winsford Anglers have made their sections of the Dane members only. The recovering fish stocks do need some protection from overfishing and maybe these are strategies to allow this.

A bit extreme on either side, lads. ?10 is inflated for a fairly average bit of chubbing. I pay ?36 for a WAA ticket for....more average chubbing, hahaha! Lymm looks a good investment, i must say.

caught my first 2 3lb 10z chub at byley bridge in the 60s.also there were mink living near the bridge about 1980.i stood on the bridge and watched them swimming.when i reported this because i thought it right to do so [fish wise]i was told not to worry about it.they are all over the place now.killing the nesting birds.they can drag a 4lb chub up the bank no problem.when i have a blank i think about this

Lymm Has 2 cracking stretchs of the Dane just upstream from Byley and one of them is aruably one of the best on the Dane for barbel, and at ?50 a season (plus a joining fee) you've paid for it in 5 or 6 visits compared to Middlewich's day ticket prices!. I also fish a stretch controled by Northwich lower down and I have just taken a pb 'river' chub of 6lb 2oz from there after fishing the river for 24 years (happy or what??). Their card costs around ?37-38 plus a joing fee.

i have lost count of chub coming out of this river over 6lbs.i have yet to see it authenticated.it is a very big chub for this river and me and my mates were knocking them out in the late 50s.if you have a chub over 6lb it needs to be classed as a record.

I've had hundreds of Chub out of the Dane over the last 25 years. I've had 3 that weighed 3.12, they are my biggest.

Mike I've no doubt you photographed the fish, would you like to send a copy to Graham so he can put it in the gallery?

i had 2 over 5lb last year and a 6lb chub is indeed a very good fish.

Do I detect some cynicism there?
you may make yourself look a little foolish on this one......

If you go on the Bay Malton website and go to Water Reports: River Dane you'll see a great looking chub of 5lb 8oz. I can't verify the weight but it doesn't look too optimistic for this fish.

In two years of fishing the Dane my PB chub was 4lb 12oz. A "5" therefore doesn't seem unreasonable but a "6" - I may be sceptical about that.

No cynicism on my part Paul! I asked for the guy to put a photo in the gallery, it's that simple!
