When a lady contacted us asking “do you know who buys vintage and antique fishing tackle”, then the answer was ‘we do’.

In with her assorted vintage 1970’s and 80’s tackle we found this rarity.

The Shakespeare President II multiplier reel. Launched in the Tackle and Guns trade magazine December 1977 with a delivery date of January 78 it was set to do battle with Abu and Diawa in the Uk marketplace.

Mr Joseph Kuti, director of Shakespeare’s marketing division in the USA commented “we have spent 5 years researching and working on the reel with one year solely redesigning a new star drag”. He claims it to be the finest in the world and will add 25 yards to any cast. Buying the world’s best gear cutting machines from Switzerland and producing the reel in the US he is convinced it is a world beater. The reel is called the President II because an early version in the late 1930’s established such a solid reputation with many examples still being fished today.

This example here the 1984-B is in superb collector condition. It certainly ranks as one of the most attractive decorated reels I’ve seen. Its runs silky smooth and well, the drag is faultless and of course is crying out to be fished today. For the collector it comes with its spares bottle, spanner, polystyrene packing and outer card box.
