I bet your tackle shop have you top of their list for a Christmas card Kevin.🙈😉

Chuckle. I buy most of my rods used, Mike, including this one. Tackle shops hate me. ;)

It's not so much the gear that I don't like, it's a question (as a relative beginner and convert from fly fishing) of dabbling in various methods and deciding if I like it or not. This one was for barbel fishing, but I quickly realised that sitting around all day and chucking out feed by the kilogram isn't as enjoyable as catching a relative tiddler every 15 minutes.

The funny thing is - all I caught with this the other day was a gudgeon and a bullhead. Couldn't 'feel' either of them of course, but I was actually pleased - both my mates caught nothing and I've never even seen a bullhead before.

Literally just picked up a mint 14ft Acolyte Plus float rod on the back of selling this one - a pretty good exchange.

Hi Kevin, I'm finding that Korum bag you sold me ideal, thanks.

But I'd sack your barbel coach :). Barbel fishing doesn't have to be anything like that.

I've nearly always found that whenever I sell a rod I'm not using, I soon come across exactly the water/opportunity that it would have been ideal for.
True, I'm tripping over the darn things, but they all come in useful for something.

I'd be as pleased with that catch as I would the rod exchange, Bullheads are like hens teeth these days especially on rod and line.

Nice catch!

Nice catch!

That day, I was chatting to a couple of other fishermen nearby. One had caught a barbel, so I was quizzing him. The other had caught a gudgeon and a bullhead. There was a pleasing sense of symmetry when I went back to my peg and did exactly the same. Looking back, and after what you've written, I'm glad to have caught the bullhead rather than a barbel. It's not all about size!
