Anyone use large spinning reels for deadbaiting? I'm thinking along the lines of 5-6k. They're so much lighter than their traditional carp/pike bait running or mini BP reels, with equal if not higher drag ratings. The only downside seems to be range of cast with the smaller spools, but if I'm not casting big distances (they'll be going on 10ft rods), is that relevant? I tend to move about a lot on one of my swims, so light, manoeuvrable tackle's useful, especially as I'm not allowed to drive right now and have to do a few trips by bus.

Re rods, yes it's relevant, the longer the rod more and easier it to get the distance and accurately. As to reels, I use medium bait runners 6000. Keep it simple is my advice.
