Why do spinning rods for multipliers always have a trigger grip? Can you use a multiplier on an ordinary reel seat and just turn the rod "upside down"?

The short answer is yes you can the trigger grip is supposed to be more comfortable to cast with single handedly thats all it does.
So carry on with your normal rods!.

I have fished for years with both single and double handled bait casting rods using a small USA style multiplier. I would say that the trigger grip is much more comfortable to hold. It's a great pity we can't buy really effective spinning and baitcasting rods in UK. I'll have to wait until I visit The USA or South Africa again before I can get myself some lure fishing rods to replace those that were stolen recently
