Hi everyone. Does anyone know the Trent between the area covered from Mansfield to Newark.. Notts ?
What I would like to know is. Are there any areas on this stretch where you can just turn up and either. Purchase a day ticket on the bank or The section is free fishing?
Most parts of the Trent there seem to be run by clubs. I am not trying to just avoid joining a club as I already belong to 4, and when one is on a pension it can become impossible to join lots of clubs, but it is nice to be able to try different places to fish and it keeps one's mind fresh

Hello OF,
The Trent doesn't go near Mansfield, which is about 20m north west of the Trent around Newark. But you might find some day ticket possibles in this thorough guide to the river.

The Newark Piscatorials stretch on the south bank from opposite the power station at Staythorpe round towards the town has roadside parking and safe, solid stone pegs. The Dyke, as this stretch is called, remains fishable in winter as some of the extra water is shipped off down another stretch over a big weir below the power station. Last time I fished there, a bailiff sold me a £5 ticket on the bank. Access is via small lanes off the old road between Farndon and the A46 roundabout.

I believe the river section alongside the A1 pits is day ticket, maybe a google search will clarify it?

If you had asked this question 30 years ago I could have been of some help to you, as from the age of 8 to 54, I must have fished or match fished, on almost every section of the Trent, from Sawley Bridge, above Long Eaton to Collingham Weir below Newark. Unfortunately the best I could do now would be to give a history lesson. However, thank you for posing the question, as I am now off on my own personal reverie of bygone trips and catches. Pete.

Is there anything in particular that you're hoping to catch Old Fisher?
Don't laugh but I would like to catch my first Chub and my first Barbel. It's just at nearly 75 years of age and my health not so good and I don't like traveling too far from home I want to get these two fish before I pop me clogs as they say
