I find I have lost my larger weighing sling. It was very simple, hard wearing rubberised canvas, easily foldable and with two centrally placed straps. Cannot remember who made it . I need a replacement , big enough for a big barbel and the odd random carp.

Looking on line , I've mainly seen pricey and complex stuff- I don't need zips, floatation panels, support struts , baby baths, something I need a trolley to transport or even dancing girls - just something I can roll up and stuff in my rucksack pocket and forget about until I need it.

Suggestions welcome

NGT do a very simple and lightweight one which comes in a bag. I find most NGT products inexpensive but well made.

NGT sling £5.95 or £7.49 with a bag. Being profligate I bought a bag as well. Check on eBay.

I have three, for different tackle bags...all different...I don't like big slings, which is because I mainly don't fish for fish over twenty pounds, yes I've had a few,but they are just about manageable in my slings....

I hate weigh slings. If they're not rigid I find them terribly unwieldy and if they are then they are a pain to lug around. I do carry a medium soft sack type thing and if I'm carping I have no real choice but to carry a proper job but not so big that it doubles as a small boat. Most of my fishing is for the smaller species and for that I use the plastic bags I get from my local ts....strong enough for fish up to about 10lb but not long enough for barbel.

I have the mesh from an old 36" landing net in my bag too and that does a job though more often than not I'd just weigh the fish in the net and knock the weight of the net off.....that's plenty near enough for me.

I'll go along with the plastic bag sling for smaller species but the ridged one Is not in my view needed for big fish. Mine because of the way it's made will weight fish up to 30lb as I've weighed them without any problems. Originally I designed them for weighing pike but found if I made a smaller one along the same lines they'd weigh chub barbel, zander. With a bit of fettling I made one for big bream tench and if needed be, carp if I couldn't shake them off the hook as they came in.

I keep meaning to get one of the large carriers that you get when you buy rolls of wallpaper, they weigh next to nothing and are quite big enough for decent sized fish.

Try the Korum Packa-weigh sling John. Light weight, packs into its own small waterproof bag, fits neatly into a small rucsac pocket, & ideally suited for your fishing. Having lost/misplaced a couple of other slings recently this was the best I could find - & even better, it was available - so many simply aren't.

I generally carry two to the lake. One is a relatively small thing that I prefer to use when possible. However, I have a bigger sling just in case a big lump of a carp turns up. It has also had barbel in it over the years. Probably not big enough for a wayward pike though.

The smaller one is a Cotswold Aquarius (I can hear the intake of breath by those aware of the brand) Specialist Weigh Sling. I actually bought this for grayling and roach, but it's been big enough for the tench so far. They also do bigger variations on a similar theme called the Specialist Weigh Sling Retainer and Specialist Weigh Sling Sack. The bigger one I have is a Gardner Multi Species Weigh Sling.

It’s funny how we all like different things!

I have one of these for barbel, pike and floater fishing for carp.

I use a floating retainer for proper mud pig fishing.

And the ignominious plastic bag for chub and smaller fish.

I have a Prologic quick release gizmo on the landing net head & handle and I have weighed just the head when all of it is wet, so it is a simple case of subtraction when weighing the net and fish - why have something else to forget to pick up or fumigate the car on a warm day ?
It also reduces unnecessary handling of the fish.

I've got one of the original Delkim slings and a Gardner sling. Both have been used for Roach all the way through to Carp and neither take up much space.
