I've been really lucky and have caught some decent sized fish but I still have a few fishing ambitions:

I'd love for my two grandsons (aged 9 and 11) to really catch the fishing bug.

I would really like to catch a big rudd.

I know it won't happen but would love to catch a 3lb roach.

Although I've tried many times I have never had a bite on silkweed.

to catch a double figure barbel and a 6lb chub.my biggest to date are 8lb 14oz and 5lb 13oz respectively.
Start coming over the Hill and fishing the Ribble both you could have in a single season. The Barbel would be the easier of the two in the right conditions. Chub you might get one possibly if you have a bit of luck. I seem to have 1 every 14-18 months.

One on my bucket list is to catch a Bone fish...however its got to be on my own terms so without hiring a guide to paint X marks the spot.

Had a few attempts but not had one yet.

To get out more than I have in the last 5 years, which would only be saying a couple of times a month. Life outside of fishing took over and I have struggled to get the fishing bug back.

Ah now you're talking.

And in the shallow waters where they're often caught, they can't go down so you're in for a burn fest on the reel as they go for distance.

There's a clip somewhere that I watched a long while ago and which stays with me for whatever reason called 'Irish Bonefish', not sure if it was on Matt Hayes YouTube or Angling Times (or even someone else for that matter) but despite searching I can't find it, it relayed the experience of catching Mullet which ran an Irish tidal river and it was much the same or similar experience iirc...

Trotting a bubble float and bread.

I have always fancied catching one from the first time I read about them which was in an Anglers mail annual (1977?) ...it was a double page spread on the last page I think and had the title "Bahama bones the formula 1 fish" ...or something like that.

Funny you should mention Mullet as thats basically how I try and catch them, with stepped up mullet gear. Pinch a few prawns from the dinner table the night before and them chuck them out under a Drennan Chubber ! (Bone fish purists will be turning in their graves :))

Not that its helped ...so far ziltch ..& sods law the one time I had a catch situation in front of me I didnt have my tackle ! .....3 of them, good sized ones too.. came drifting casually along the beach in inches of water, crystal clear, nose ending down every few feet to browse on something, I literally could have touched them. 😭

Isn't it always the case? In Cyprus the biggest mullet were always under the boats the the cobweb of mooring ropes made it impossible to get to them even with a stepped up carp pole. And when we were birdwatching in the Ebro delta the biggest mullet I have ever seen this side of Cyprus was lazily swimming under a No Fishing sign.

My best tench weighed 4lb 15oz. I’d really like to better that this year, and I’m still trying to catch a 20lb carp, and I hope the weather is dryer and warmer this year, it was rubbish last year.

Small Crabs, like 10p piece size or a bit bigger you can find in and under pieces of coral rubble are great bait for them, and Permit love them as well.

  1. To be better at trotting.
  2. To actually cut my kit down and stick with it.
  3. Fish different venues, change of tickets has happened.
  4. To appreciate the smaller species instead of chasing bigger fish all of the time.
  5. Catch on homemade floats :)

Just going fishing would be an achievement at present but the situation should change soon.

I want to make better videos; it's terrifically challenging and I enjoy the massive learning curve of sound, vision and editing, combined with catching fish for the camera in short sessions.

I've yet to catch 7lb chub, tench and mullet - just one of those would be good! A pound dace remains an aspiration.
