It Was! Had To Modify How I Used My Fish-On Spooler!
This Daiwa Saltist 8000 is massive! I had to incorporate slight modifications into how I spool a reel to get this job done. Mind you i've spooled "on paper" bigger reels like Shimano's Ultegra 14000 with no issues. This reel had width, weight, & sheer bulkiness that forced me to adapt to it. Right now it's the biggest spinning reel i own. Wasn't cheap either BNIB when i got it.
It did accept the 75mm size Gomesus Power Knob accessory add-on. If the wrestler Andre The Giant was still with us this'll be the reel for him. The Saltist series does hit well beyond their rated sizes. The 4K i just got looks & feels like a 5K. My 4.5K looks & feels like a 8/10K.
This unit is like a 18/20K spinning reel. Took a lot of 40lb mono to spool it. If i sent 30lb it would've emptied my 1-shot re-fill. Just remember this isn't a large capacity finesse type of reel. It's a pure powerhouse work reel that holds a lot of line. Great for surf casting!
