The Environment Agency is giving free angling instruction toyoungsters from Matfield and Brenchley tomorrow, 4 September, atMatfield Village Pond.

The day is intended to encourage up to fifteen children agedbetween 6 to 15 who have never tried freshwater fishing to ‘give it ago’.

Coaching is free; bait and fishing tackle will be supplied.

The children will also learn about bank-side health and safety,security issues, caring for the environment and the rod licensingsystem.

Environment Agency officers will be on hand to answer questionsabout the Agency’s work and give out free ‘goody bags’. John Smith,Environment Agency Kent Fisheries Officer said, “This should be a funday for all the family, there will be lots to keep everyoneinterested and you can learn about fishing too. We shall have a teamof eight fisheries officers there, all dedicated to ensuring that thechildren gain the most that they can from their fishing lessons.

“We really want to encourage the children to feel that they haveownership of their pond, to teach them about the local environmentand what they can do to protect it.”
