Gardner Cyba Torch – Head Light

“Small featherweight (25g) head torch with magnifier lens for focussed light. Also angles through 90 degrees to focus on the ground ahead. Comes complete with batteries.”

That’s the description that Gardner gives on it’s website. Simple enough, it’s a single LED extra-bright bulb. The batteries (2 x CR2016) are standard and readily available from most stores or on the web.

The single head band strap can be completely detached and the light clipped to your cap or a convenient point on your bivvy. It is turned on and off by rotating the lens and the light is a very focused beam of about 10 inches at 2 feet (see pic).

There doesn’t seem to be an RRP for it, but expect to pay anything from £ 10-£ 14.

The Jeff Woodhouse Verdict

I have complained before about so-called angler’s head lamps and the fact that many are just bought in from the far east with little regard for angler’s real needs. Who wants flashing lights, for example? It’s the last thing you want when fishing at night. This isn’t perfect, a switch would have been more convenient than twisting the lens, but it does all that an angler wants – switches on, switches off and the angle adjusts. Job done.

The simple single LED lamp is really bright, I mean REALLY bright and no-one should have any difficulties tying knots or unhooking fish in it’s beam! It is really handy and mine is set to clip onto my cap’s neb. It’s lightness is suitable and it doesn’t get in the way when fixed on your cap. If it does, you can swap it to the side of your cap’s neb and adjust the angle.

I like it very much and a useful addition to all my others. Shop around for it. My local shop were selling them for £ 9.99, but I have seen them on sale for £ 13.99.
