Several holidaymakers were attacked whilst swimming in shallow water at Ras Nasrani area of the popular Egyptian Sharm el-Sheikh resort in the past few days.
A Ukrainian and three Russians were wounded in the Tuesday and Wednesday attacks. One is in a critical condition, while another had their arm bitten off. All four of the victims were flown to Cairo for medical treatment and all are said to be in a critical condition
Scuba dive instructor Hassan Salem was able to warn the shark off by blowing bubbles at it. He said the 3 metre shark circled him before attacking a Russian woman and seriously injuring her leg and back. He identified the fish as an oceanic white tip shark Carcharhinus longimanus
Today the coastal marine guards closed all the beaches. Every Hotel was advised to close any access to the sea and to inform the guests not to enter the water.
Sharm is a premiere holiday destination for divers.
Latest reports from Sharm claim that two sharks have been caught which fit the description of those described in the attacks but that the beaches are still closed to swimmers.
