The work undertaken was to reinstate damaged bank on the Jubilee River, which forms part of the Maidenhead, Windsor and Eton Flood Alleviation Scheme, immediately upstream of Marsh Lane Weir and was part of the Rivers Week 2013 programme.
The work was completed using soft engineering methods, geo-textile materials, untreated chestnut stakes and small amounts of backfill delivered to site and was undertaken by EA Fisheries Officers, volunteers from Thames Valley Angling Association, the Thames Angler’s Conservancy and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.
The objectives were to improve safe access for all anglers to the fishing platforms and prevent further erosion of the banks. The work also allowed volunteers, members of the public, consultatives and angling clubs to get involved with practical work.
Angling on the Environment Agency controlled section of the Jubilee River is leased to the Thames Valley Angling Association. Visiting anglers can buy a day ticket from local tackle shops but please note that the Jubilee is covered by the statutory close season for coarse fish – 15 March to 15 June inclusive.
