Gary Knowles, a regular on FISHINGmagic, made the news in December last year when he trolled a Scottish loch and caught a 241/2 lb pike.
On that occasion he float-trolled a dead roach to tempt the big predator, but this time, on Staffordshire’s Blithfield Reservoir, the rules allowed only lure fishing.
So with the help of a short lure rod, a Super Shad Rap lure (perch pattern) and 50lb braided line he fished a shallow bay in thick fog to take a super specimen of 31lb 8oz.
Gary commented, ‘I was drunk as a b****** that evening!’
