Manufacturer’s Overview

A new concept in Tackle Management. The Ruckbag is based on our Intelligent Tackle Management system (compatible with the Tackle/Rig Manager boxes). The top opening allows complete access to the main compartment. The rucksack straps are also top mounted to prevent them lying on the ground and getting dirty. The EVA base protects the base even in wet/muddy swims. The Ruckbag is also compatible with Korum chairs, especially the lightweight version. The innovative clip and strap system allows the chair to form a supported rucksack back, which maximises mobility for the roving angler.

Verdict

It’s different, of that there is no doubt. It turns the usual rucksack concept upside down, or at least on its back.

This rucksack, or ruckbag as Korum have christened it, doesn’t stand on its end with access to the main compartment at the top, but lies flat, with almost the whole of what is usually the side panel unzipping and allowing exceptionally easy access to the whole of its contents. So, no more rooting around trying to find that catapult that’s buried at the bottom.

Exceptionally easy access to the whole of its contents

Not so obvious at first but other benefits come with this revolutionary design. Like most rucksacks it doesn’t fall over, and with the opening to the main compartment being at a lower level it is easier to just look inside without having to stand up or tilt it.

And then comes an unexpected benefit: it’s made so that the Korum chair, the original and especially the lightweight mesh version, clips onto the back. So when you put the rucker on your back the chair is between your back and the rucker, leaving you with an extra hand free to carry something else or just enable you to give the finger to your mate who hasn’t got a Ruckbag and is struggling.

The chair is between your back and the Ruckbag

The surprising thing (or it surprised me anyway) is that you can’t feel the chair digging into your back, which is what I expected before I tried it. It sits comfortably in place and you really don’t know it’s there.

The long side pocket will hold the biggest flask and more besides and the two smaller side pockets are roomy too. Which reminds me, the main compartment is deceiving; it holds a hell of a lot more kit than you expect on first sight.

Slides out of the way under your chair

The EVA base offers good protection against all the wet and mud we anglers have to contend with and, not to be dismissed lightly, is the fact that the Ruckbag slides nicely out of way under your Korum Lightweight chair. And a small point, but nevertheless a plus-point, is that the two handles at each end of the Ruckbag make it easy to pick it up when loading and unloading the car.

One thing I would have liked is a buckled strap across the shoulder straps to stop them from sliding off my shoulders, but in spite of that and not having used the Ruckbag a lot yet and the jury still being out, I have a feeling I won’t be finding a lot, if anything much, wrong with it.

I’ll be very surprised if it doesn’t catch on with a lot of anglers, especially considering it comes very reasonably priced at £ 39.99.
