FISHINGmagic brings you the first live report from the waterside. Editor Graham Marsden and pals Dave Colclough, Eddie Bibby and Dave Dowding arrived at Melton Pit in Suffolk only to find no swims available.

However, two gentlemen anglers, fishing two of the prime pegs, said they were not staying long and that we could pitch our bivvies ready for when they pack at about 2pm. We were glad to accept their kind offer.

Only 10 minutes later, one of the anglers, David Cockwell, 57, from Colchester, Essex, struck into what was obviously a very big bream, his rod bucking as he carefully played the fish to the landing net. Dave Colclough provided a weigh sling and Eddie a set of scales.

The fish weighed an incredible 12lb 6oz and is David’s personal best bream, his previous best being a 10-pounder from the same water. He fished at 50yds range with a quivertip rod, 8lb braided reel line, 4lb mono hooklength to a 14’s hook. Bait was redworm.

Watch out for the next live report from this water over the next few days.
