Three years ago the Llandudno fisherman shared a £ 3.5 million win on the lottery win with his mother and his good fortune has given Richie more time for his favourite sport.
And he put all of the practice into action on a wind-blown River Mersey to catch a 4lb 5oz 4dram cod while anchored on his boat “Jaguar” in the deep water channel off Seaforth Rocks.
First prize was £ 750 which he pocketed, but Richie also won the biggest fish pool of £ 185, which he kindly donated to the cancer charities fund, taking monies raised on the day to a terrific £ 2000.
There couldn’t have been a closer result with Gary Jones from Colwyn Bay, fishing on “Goldilocks” catching a cod of 4lb 5oz, fishing near to the Pier Head, then came Wirral’s Dave Parr on “Pistyll Dawn” with a cod weighing 4lb 4oz.
