Abbey Lake is fishing very well, that’s according to bailiff CyrilWilding. Cyril reports a bite a chuck from this waters exceptionalstocks of prime roach. Best baits are bread punch, bronze maggots andsmall worms. Substantial roach catches are being complemented bybream and tench.
Lymm Dam is providing some good fishing at the moment, lastweekend Club official Lew Poulson reported good catches of bream androach, with specimens of both, from all around the water. Bestmethods are sweetcorn on the tip, or magotts on the pole. Perch arecoming to all methods, providing a bite a chuck close in.
Founders Pool and Belmont Pool are giving up a steady stream ofcarp, although action is stiffled during the hottest part of the day,as all they want to do is cruise or bask just below the surface, during which time they have no inclination to feed at all.Nevertheless, Geoff and Sue Davies enjoyed a couple of outings onFounders Pool during the hot weather of last week, and landed severalcarp to doubles.
Statham Pool is another water where the fish siesta during themidday heat. During this period deep water swims can produce specimentench or bream. However, once the shoal fish start feeding, they makeit very obvious by swirling near the surface every time freeofferings are flicked in. When this happens sport is fast andfurious, with the fish taking on the drop, the less tackle used thebetter, freelining can be the most effective method of hitting thelightening fast takes.
New Pool and Grimsditch are much of a muchness at the moment, withthe bulk of the action in both cases produced by skimmers.
Members are asked to help the Club with the drive to eradicatelitter. Although, in small amounts this litter poses a big problem. Oncertain waters, such is the problem, the Club is considering closingthem to fishing.
Why should a small amount of mindless louts threaten the rights ofthe responsible majority, the answer is don’t let them. If you seelittering, that includes bagged litter left on car parks, challengethe offender, if you do not wish to do this note the time, vehiclenumbers and the descriptions of the individuals concerned, and thenreport the matter to either the head bailiff, myself or any otherClub official. Lets identify them and get rid, they do not belong inour Club.
On a more positive note, I can inform the membership that FarmPool is now open to fishing.
I can be contacted on 01925 411774.
