9th October 2001

I have been looking at September’s water reports and have again beenamazed at the quality of the fish caught at Lymmvale. Carp to 21lb,tench to 9lb-8-0, rudd to 1lb-15-0, chub to 6lb-9-0, barbel to7lb-2-0, orfe to 5lb-8-0 and catfish to 32lb-8-0. Within this listthere are specimens of a wide range of species which makes Lymmvale aspecimen hunters paradise.

Lymvale’s ecology is an absolute food factory, with natural foodin abundance. This explains the incredible growth rate of theinhabitant fish, with an average of 3lb per year going onto thecatfish, at this rate catfish of over 40lb is only a few years away.

Another catfish success story is Founders Pool where, this year, numerous catfish have been caught at under 1lb. This is irrefutableevidence that they have successfully bred in this water, as they areknown to have in Whitley Pool. At the moment it is only Founders andWhitley that have shown evidence of the successful spawning of thesefish.

As indicated last week, the night fishing bans imposed due tolittering have all been lifted. This following a great improvement inthe situation. Many thanks to all our members who have helped byidentifying guilty parties, who are no longer members of theClub.

Winds over last weekend caused quite some damage to trees, on andaround our waters. Luckily we have the services of a tree surgeon whowill address the damage, giving priority to dangerous situations.Members are asked to report any dangerous tree damage as soon aspossible.

These adverse weather conditions made fishing difficult on allexcept the most sheltered of waters. The poor weather has also leftthe rivers in flood, with some unfishable in places. Neverthelessthere are members, such as Ron Saunders and Dave Shard, who relishthese conditions as it virtually guarantees the banks to themselves, with good nets of fish still possible with modified tactics.

This coming Monday the Club’s 55th AGM takes place at The BankQuay Social Club, on Green Street. Proceedings commence at 8.00 pm,with valid Club licences required to gain access. Proposals this yearrelate to the Senior subscription rate, the Secretary’s salary andapproval of Life Member nominations.

I can be contacted on 01925 411774.
