Throughout the previous week or two most stillwaters have been frozen over with little or no angling taking place. Hopefully this situation will change soon, because at the time of writing a fast and furious thaw was underway.
During this period the rivers came into their own and were visited by lots of members who prefer stillwaters, nevertheless the rivers came up with some good catches despite the adverse weather conditions.
Grayling are an enigmatic species, which seem to prefer the cold conditions. On our stretches of upper Severn, Vyrnwy and Wincham Brook, this is borne out by grayling forming the bulk of catches with Tom Casey and Dave Shard spending an increasing amount of their fishing time on the Welsh Rivers, and numerous members rediscovering the delights of Wincham Brook, especially in view of its Winter Wonderland atmosphere.
Any member wishing for some tips on how to make the most of our rivers, give me a call and I will give contact details of river specialists, who will only be too glad to help with advice on tackle, tactics, baits and swims.
Wednesday night bulk administration sessions have now commenced, with the first task of the sending out of 2002 subscription reminders being undertaken over the next week or two. The sessions take place weekly at the Manor Lock Public House on Grange Avenue, Latchford, and commence at 7.45 pm. Please remember that these sessions offer a light duty work opportunity, allowing disabled and pensioner members a way of earning an overstamp in a warm and sociable environment, whilst assisting the Club greatly. If you wish to become involved, just turn up and report to organiser Eddie Rothwell.
