Lymm Angling Club’s Senior Match Group again showed their prowess by winning the Angling Times Winter League North of England Semi Final, fished on the River Weaver, last Saturday. With squad member Dave Stewart winning his section and team mates Jimmy Byrne and Martin Lenihan coming second on their sections and Graham (Magnum) Belton coming fourth overall, they won by eleven clear points over second-placed Diawa Goldthorpe. In third place came Leeds Anglers World, with Keynets North-west following in fourth position. Jimmy puts the success of the squad down to solid team performances.
The regional finalist will meet for the Grand Final in July on the River Nene at Peterborough.
Work has commenced on two new pools on the Belmont Estate. Hopefully, they will be completed in time for some pond life to begin establishing itself during the Summer. These pools will enhance the diverse complex of pools already on this site.
Last Sunday more work was undertaken on Whitley Pool, with the results far exceeding expectations. To date twelve new fishing positions have been created, which will allow extensive access to the fishery as compared to the restrictions caused by increasing water levels endured in recent years.
Work parties continue next Saturday, please note that I incorrectley stated last week that all future work parties would be on Sundays.
Grimsditch remains the most consistant fishery, with plenty of skimmers, roach and perch coming to pinkies or squatt.
On Spring Pool members Brian Ellis reported catching some specimen perch, with some coming close to two pounds in weight. Next door on New Pool action is provided by skimmers up to four ounces, although at the moment the average weight of fish caught is approximately two ounces.
Village Pool is as reliable as ever, with the full range of its species mix being landed by members, using very light tackle.
