England co-manger Downes announced the move in an attempt to counter what is generally seen as a steady demise of team fishing in the UK with the Sensas UK boss looking to give the branch of the sport a much-needed boost through the new country-wide competition.

The matches will be fished on a variety of different venues to international rules in an attempt to bring on anglers with the experience of team fishing on natural venues and to international rules to help ensure the future of the national team.

Mark’s ultimate aim is for the Sensas Challenge to move to a number of regional leagues with ten teams of five anglers competing over three four hour matches during the summer months. The top four teams from each regional league will then go through to a UK final alongside four invited teams with the venue chosen for the final rotating around the regions year by year. The top three teams from the final will then go through to fish a European final against the best teams on the continent.

Downes is looking to recruit regional organisers and teams to get the competition started in 2013 and anyone interested can contact Mark at mtd@sensas.fr
