Albert Marshall was fishing from the rocks near the shore at Foxes Snout, Ross Bay, near Kirkcudbright, on August 17 when he was pulled into the water by a conger eel.
Extensive searches by Lifeboat crews, coastguard search teams and a Royal Navy helicopter of the area immediately after his disappearance failed to find Mr Marshall, aged 44, from Tongland, Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and Galloway, who was a non-swimmer.
Then on Saturday a local angler found his body in the area where Mr Marshall had been pulled in.
A report is being submitted to the procurator fiscal following a post mortem examination, but Dumfries and Galloway Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
The body has now been released to the family, police said.
