You’ve seen the words ‘My FISHINGmagic’ in the left column of the home page of this website. But there are plenty of members who don’t really know what lies behind those two simple words. If you click on them this is the page you’ll be taken to:
This page and the pages the tabs along the top take you to are where you can customise FISHINGmagic. This is where you can enter your own personal details and then make the website all yours, where the information you receive will be prioritised to suit your personal tastes.
You may not realise it just yet but there may be lots of thingshappening on this website that you’ve remained blissfully unaware of.Simply because the ‘My FISHINGmagic’ section doesn’t know youwell enough, and doesn’t know that you, for instance, want to seecarp fishing on the front page, but not match, sea or game fishing.Do you know which boxes are ticked or not ticked in the ‘MyNews’ page like the one you can see in the picture above?
That’s a screenshot of my own ‘My News’ page. It has allthe boxes ticked because as editor of this website I want to seeeverything come and go on the front page. If you’re a sea angler andare not at all interested in coarse or game fishing then you justwant the ticks in the sea section, but maybe not all of them ifyou’re not interested in, say, ‘Clubs and Associations’. It’s on thispage too, where you can customise the Forum and say how often,if at all, you receive our newsletters.
Now click on the ‘My Magic’ tab and you’ll see the pagewhere you can enter any or all of your personal details and decidewhether or not you want to make them available to other members.That’s your decision, as usual, and nothing to do with us. On thissame page you can change your password and upload yourphotograph.
Try the ‘My Sport’ tab. This takes you to a page where youcan fill in the details about your favouritespecies, the type of fishing you like best, favourite methods, best fish,which angling journals you read, which area of the country you fish,if you fish abroad. This page helps us to help you, for by fillingthis in we know what the majority of our readers like best and cantailor the website to suit.
Take a look at the ‘My Local’ page. No, it’s not going totell you where the boozer is down the road from your house! But itwill tell you where your local fishing clubs are and your localtackle shops. You can join a shop’s mailing list here too, and addclubs and shops to your page.
Last, and no doubt least, we have ‘My Page’, where you cansee your own handsome countenance smiling out at you (if you’veuploaded your photo) and some details from your ‘My Magic’page. This page also shows you what your last message was to theForum.
Good eh? Well, not bad anyway. Got to be worth filling in to makeFISHINGmagic work at its very best for you. You only have to do itonce.
Mind you, if you suddenly develop a passion for salmon fishing onthe Tweed you might have to go back in and stick some ticks in thegame fishing section and remove some from coarse.
