The British Record Fish Committee have decided that they will no longer accept claims for the wels catfish record. The decision has been triggered by the stocking of foreign imports already above the British record weight.

BRFC say that such claims ‘are not in the true spirit of the list and therefore the decision has been taken to close the list for wels catfish.’

As a result the claim from Brian Close for an 86lb 8oz cat from Willowbank Fisheries will not be considered.

Trevor Wilson’s claim for the new barbel record with a fish of 17lb 10oz has been rejected because the rod was handled by more than one angler during the playing of the fish. At the time Trevor handed the rod to another angler while he went to free the fish from a snag. Guy Robb’s 17lb 6oz barbel was accepted.

Martin Whitmore’s 16lb12oz bream, Jay Allen’s 4lb 8oz crucian carp and Michael Wilkinson’s 8lb 5oz golden orfe were all accepted.

As were the following new records:

Blonde Ray 38lb 9oz

Shore rockling 12oz 10dr
