SEFTON
Sefton Sea Anglers won the National Federation of Sea Anglers North West Beach Championship at Arnside with a four-man total catch of 69lb.

The team was well prepared with the small harbour ragworm supplied by Johnson’s Tackle as they fished with light beach tackle in the shallow water of the River Kent estuary, not far from Carnforth.

The team of Derek Salisbury, Phil Ramsdale, Alan Sharpe and Dave McDonald caught 70 flounders between them.

Flimby Sea Angling Club from the north-east were second with 63lb 12oz.

The winners possibly got an edge after taking part in the Sefton Sea Anglers “Fur & Feather” match the week previously on the same venue when Peter Armstrong won with a catch of 6lb 9oz, all flounders caught on ragworm.

The day’s biggest flounder was a 1lb 14oz fish caught by 13 year old Terry Gray.

WARRINGTON
Liverpool’s Steve Fleming won the Warrington AA Open on the Bridgewater Canal at Lymm with 11lb 9oz.

The canal’s stock of large carp tend to hog the deeper water close to moored boats during winter and Steve got a peg on the barges in Lymm and at the end of the first hour was netting a 7lb carp that he had caught on pole fished worm.

After that he changed to caster on the hook and added two bream and some small fish for his winning total.
