The Pads Lake is netted each year to thin out the bream and tench and to monitor the growth rates of the carp. The stock numbers 100 and nettings in previous years indicated a steady growth with fish to about 20lb but most around the mid double-figures.

Pads Lake opens for angling in June 2001 so this year’s netting was vital to see how the carp were developing. Continued growth was expected but everyone was stunned when carp to 30lb were revealed.
A big haul of fish came from the deeper water at the top end of the lake. A total of 49 carp amazed the onlookers. These fish averaged no less than 24lb and the biggest two topped 30lb.

Few of the carp were less than 20lb and all were in excellent condition.
