FM Forum regular Rich Drayson closed his river season on the Hampshire Avon and was rewarded with a personal best chub of 6lb 4oz.

At 6lb 4oz it’s a PB for Richard Drayson and a great way to end the season
He fed a mixture of liquidised bread and shop-bought groundbait and took the fish on trotted bread flake from the middle reaches.

Rich had just two bites all day, the first one he connected with, but the hooklength parted shortly after hooking the fish, due to a suspected wind knot.

The second bite followed soon afterwards and resulted in the PB chub.

“What really surprised me about the chub was it’s thick, broad shoulders, it was a really thick-set fish.” Rich said.

The tackle he used was a 14ft float rod, a Speedia centrepin reel, 3.2lb Drennan Floatfish line, and a size 14 Drennan Carbon Specimen hook.
