I don’t know whether this publication should be called a soft-back book or a thick magazine. It can certainly be quite accurately described as either.
One thing’s for sure though, it’s a top-notch publication printed on the best quality paper. As a consequence the photographs and diagrams are superbly reproduced and you get that nice, warm glow as you read something that has obviously been constructed with loving care rather than something that has been thrown together under the weight of looming deadlines.
The PAC describe the book as ‘The A to Z of pike fishing into the third millennium., And, ‘How, when and where to fish, plus much, much more.’ I don’t know about it being the A to Z of pike fishing, but without the size of the book increasing tenfold it is certainly very comprehensive.
It’s so difficult to pick out any one or two articles for special mention from a publication like this for fear of allowing the reader to think they were better than the rest. Because that wouldn’t be the case, they are all good. Another difficulty is trying not to go overboard with praise, for there is a certain danger of doing that.
And the greatest difficulty of all is trying not to find something to criticise just for the sake of it, so that the review doesn’t come across as sycophantic.
But to hell with it. It is a damn good book and to root for something to criticise would be petty. The articles are great, all of them, and they cover topics from conservation and biology to conventional ‘how to’ features. The pictures and the production are excellent, and I really must say that any pike angler should get hold of a copy. There is a lot in the book to interest everyone, no matter what their level of experience. It is worth a pound or two more than the asking price of £ 6.50 too.
