Pike anglers are calling for answers after fishery students culled pike on a tributary of the Thames and boasted about their exploits online. After the killing on the River Darrent, one posted pictures on a taxidermy fans webstite, adding: “Took 3 home (including the 14lber) for mounting – was skinning out pike till 2am…” The Pike Anglers Club of Great Britain said: “Pike culls in rivers are invariably ill-conceived and needless. “All the scientific evidence says so. These are supposed to be trainee fisheries scientists, we’re shocked and horrified by the relish these students seem to have taken in killing pike and boasting about their exploits.” The PAC will be speaking to Hadlow College. The PAC has campaigned to preserve the pike since 1977. |
