Daylight travels in waves oscillating in all directions of three-dimensional space. Polarized light also travels, but mostly moves in two dimensions: horizontally and vertically. Vertical light brings useful information to the human eye, enabling us to see colours and contrasts, while horizontal light simply creates optical noise or glare. Where light strikes a non-metallic surface such as water it often reflects primarily in a horizontal plane. This creates a high concentration of glare which can be selectively blocked only by a good quality polarizing filter.

With Polarization
Polarizing lenses selectively filter out the horizontal light, thus eliminating glare.
Wearing Polaroid sunglasses means:
Glare-free vision
Enhanced contrasts
100% UV protection
Significantly less eye-fatigue
Outstanding colour perception
All these factors contribute to superb optical comfort, enabling improved concentration. They also set Polaroid’s high-quality lenses apart from many other manufacturers of polarizing filters. Polaroid sunglasses represent an excellent product with tangible benefits for the wearer. Once you wear Polaroid polarizing sunglasses you will never wear ordinary sunglasses again!
Lens Technology Polaroid’s polarizing lenses are made up of a number of functional elements ultra-carefully bonded together to achieve a high-performance optical product. The main element of the sandwich lens construction is the polarizing light filter in the centre. Laminated to both sides of the filter are UV light absorbers, which block 100% of harmful UVA, UVB, and UVC radiation. Optically corrected, shatter-resistant cushion elements are laminated to both sides of the UV absorbers, followed by a unique scratchproof coating applied to the outer surfaces.
Great looks and performance and a quality case
UV protection Continuous exposure to intense sunlight damages not just the skin, but the eyes as well. Long-term unfiltered UV radiation can cause permanent eye damage, which could lead to visual impairment. Polaroid sunglasses benefit from UV protection that filters out 100% of harmful UVA, UVB, and UVC radiation. This means they meet or surpass official sunglass standards around the world.
In layman’s terms For those who require it simplifying, these glasses, due to their Polaroid lenses, will remove glare from the water’s surface and enable you to distinguish fish, underwater features, and even a float on a bright day with ease, giving you an insight the normal naked eye cannot provide.
If you don’t have UV protection on sunny days, your eyes like your skin can suffer with disastrous consequences. These glasses from Polaroid offer 100% protection, and such protection is essential.
Having worked in the tackle trade and now working in a role where having good glare protection when driving can mean the difference between life and death I have worn a good many pairs of ‘polarized glasses’ and found many to be close to worthless. As a result for the last 15 years I have been wearing the same pair for my fishing which I found to be not the most aesthetically pleasing or comfortable but performed well visually, and for work I have been wearing cycling glasses, which again were not ideal. So when I came into possession of a pair of genuine Polaroid glasses, their evaluation from a professional point of view, as well as leisure point of view was going to be a tough one.
Firstly they passed the ‘wife’ test with flying colours for the way they looked. Mrs H had always commented that my old glasses had always made me look like someone with a dubious intent. The fact that she will walk next to me in public when I’m wearing the Polaroids says a lot.
The pair I have are in a ‘sports’ wrap around style which, as well as providing excellent protection with no irritating side leakage of light, they do look good on or off the bank.
Fantastic glasses (model needs a little airbrushing though!)
The design has to be the most comfortable I have worn. I do not need to wear glasses to correct impaired vision, only for sun protection, and so ‘notice’ them usually after a short while. Yet with these glasses I have had no comfort issues at all and they can be easily worn for long sessions. They also come complete with a good quality case to keep them safe when not in use.
Secondly, on the bank they perform superbly, it’s not often that you can ‘believe the hype’, but in this case you can. A low winter sun glistening off a breeze rippled water’s surface provides the hardest conditions in which to see a float at distance. These often headache-inducing conditions have been completely overcome and even on dull, overcast days the lenses allow enough light through to ensure no matter what the conditions, the Polaroid’s make life easier for the eyes.
I have found the performance and quality of vision gained to be far superior to my old glasses and any other type I have tried. In clear water conditions the clarity of the Polaroid lenses are unbeatable; fish, your lure or fly are seen through the surface glare with ease, giving a huge advantage in any angling situation.
Thirdly, off the bank, especially when driving, the glasses offer a duel benefit. Wet winter roads with the sun glaring off them, to the point of almost blinding you, are treacherous. Normal lenses, or poor quality polarizing lenses, only darken a dangerous picture. The excellent performance of these glasses mean that the brow creasing squinting that was present before is now banished. The Polaroids are now my glasses of choice at work and at play.
The pair I tested cost a fraction under £ 40, they will last a lifetime, and you will be hard pushed to find anything that performs better. Polaroid are the ‘daddy’ of polarizing sunglasses, so why settle for anything less, or pay more, and end up with a poor imitation of the real thing. A great product at a great price that is essential for every angler, outdoors person (and driver) out there.
Polaroid also have women’s, children’s, and fashion ranges with the same high performance.
