Quest Baits

Quest Baits in 2008

www.questbaits.com

Quest Baits have been around for a couple of years now and have been quietly gathering a significant following, marketing principally through word of mouth and their own Website. But all that’s set to change in 2008 as they embark upon a major brand launch that will see Quest on the shelves of some of the largest tackle shops in the UK backed up by a major advertising campaign.

Quest Baits

Quest is headed by well respected, long time carp angler Shaun Harrison. Shaun’s dedicated a large proportion of the last 30 years of his life to the pursuit of carp, so frankly there’s not a lot he doesn’t know about the bait scene. He’s developed a very impressive range of 8 boilies plus all the associated dips, glugs, pop-ups and pellets etc. you’d expect. One bait simply doesn’t cover every eventuality so each bait has been designed for different times of the year and different situations. Reading the specification for each one clearly shows there’s a lot of thought gone into this range.

The Quest packaging is eye catching and angler friendly with 1kg re-sealable bags which stand up unsupported (instead of falling over in a heap), 2kg tubs with a handy carry handle (great for carrying tackle bits even when you’ve used the boilies) plus a 5kg bag for longer sessions. Every bag contains a free sample of a different flavoured hook bait from the range plus a fold-out “Hints & Tips” booklet. In addition, the 2kg tubs include free pop-ups.

The Quest website – www.questbaits.com – is a real winner, a great source of information about the products, plus loads of hints and tips on how to get the best from them. The star of the show is the Video Vault where you can download literally dozens of short video clips which go much further than just promoting the Quest products. There’s ‘How To’s’ on all manner of topics from using paste through to netting your baits to protect them from the dreaded French Poisson Chat. Whilst on the subject of the much hated Chat, the Quest Pineapple Crush has been specifically designed to deter them… well worth a look if you’re off to France this year.

All in all a very impressive range of products, backed up with the years of experience and integrity Shaun brings to the brand – we’re sure you’ll be seeing much more of Quest.

Boilie Fact Sheet

Special Crab
Special Crab

A combination of LT94 fish meal & Robin Red birdfood plus natural fish extracts, garlic and black pepper. Special Crab has an incredible track record and quite simply the fish recognise it as a food source from the moment they find it. It is our joint top seller, both here and in France.

It’s responsible for many big carp captures and really comes into its own as the temperatures rise in the spring. It produces the goods all through the summer period, right up to the temperatures dropping in the autumn. Carp will eat Special Crab during the winter months but the natural attractors used in its make up become trapped inside the bait in very cold water making it less attractive.

Rahja Spice

Special Crab

Quickly establishing itself as a classic bait and joint top seller with the Special Crab… but a very different bait indeed. Based on a blend of high quality bird food ingredients, including Robin Red, this bait has a specially formulated blend of spices, soluble garlic and essential oils which give it a distinctive “curry house” smell and taste.

You can rely on Rahja to produce the goods all year long with no need to change bait as the temperatures start to drop. Ask many of our customers to choose just one bait and this would be it.

Fruity Trifle

Special Crab

A gorgeous ‘angler friendly’ smell of cream and mixed fruit, all served on a highly digestible bird food base!

Fruity Trifle is a true 12 month bait, equally at home on a pressured ticket water in the summer as it is on the hardest syndicate water in the depths of winter. You can feed it safely, knowing that the carp will have no problems digesting it whatever the water temperatures.

It has good flavour release but still retains its taste due to the clever use of essential oils and liquid attractors. This makes it very instant with no need for pre-baiting, so it also works well fished simply as a stringer bait or long range single hook bait.

Tiger Nut Crunch

Special Crab

A subtle Tiger Nut smell presented on a mixed bird food, insect and nut base mix giving a good ‘crunchy’ type texture which is very easily digested even in cold water temperatures.

Tiger Nut Crunch has produced carp from some of the hardest waters in the country and is very different to most other baits on offer… so if you’re looking for something different then the Tiger could be for you. No fish meal is used and it has none of the usual sweet ‘angler friendly’ type fruity smells.

The flavour, taste and ‘crunchability’ of tiger nuts all wrapped together in an easy to use boilie form!

Smokey Fish

Special Crab

An LT94 fish meal base combined with a mellow smokehouse fish aroma. This bait was Shaun’s number one choice for his 2006 season on the Mangrove and he enjoyed a succession of multi fish captures on it.

Smokey Fish is ideally suited to the warmer months when the higher water temperatures allow the bulk food oil content to come into its own. It contains no Robin Red at all which distinguishes it from a lot of other fish meal based baits on the market.

It has a natural pale brown colour and includes a clever feed stimulating blend of enhancers which ensure the carp keep coming back for more.

Irish Cream

Special Crab

As the name suggests, Quest Baits version of a glass of Bailey’s in boilie form!

The base mix has a very long history in Shaun’s personal fishing and he has used it on and off since 1984. A very instant bait which has caught an incredible amount of winter fish… but still produces the goods in summer too. It has a natural pale milk protein colour, reflecting the ingredients used in its makeup.

It’s a smooth textured bait which gives a quick flavour release even in the coldest conditions so, as with Fruity Trifle, it’s also a very good single hook or stringer bait.

Liver B8

Special Crab

A total meat, liver and blood based bait. No fish meals and no bird foods at all, so this bait is very different. Shaun’s been working on it for a long while now and he’s stuck his head on the line claiming it to be the best bait he’s ever developed!

Naturally dark brown in colour and containing no bulk oils at all, the flavour and taste are both very subtle… but the carp’s reaction to it has to be seen to be believed. Shaun made the final tweaks to the Liver in 2007, whilst stalking fish he could watch feeding, and he’s now confident it cannot be improved.

This bait catches at all times of the year and interestingly it seems to sort out the larger fish. So if it’s something very different you’re after, definitely look no further. This one’s special… very special.

Pineapple Crush

Special Crab

A 12 month bait, but very different to anything else in our range. We’ve been asked a lot for an ‘in your face’ bright, heavily flavoured bait – an attractor type bait. We didn’t want to go down the common route of chucking a cheap semolina/soya base together just to produce a flavour carrier – we still wanted a bait that the carp could benefit from eating – but give it the big flavour boost customers were asking for.

At the time we were working on a bait that the dreaded Poisson Chat in France wouldn’t like and it occurred to us that we could kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. The experiments we did had shown the Poisson Chat definitely didn’t eat the Pineapple Crush if they had the choice of something else… but the carp most certainly did.

If you check the catch reports on our website – www.questbaits.com – from Old Oaks in France the results were embarrassingly silly. The carp went mad on the Pineapple when anglers were struggling to keep any other boilie on the hair due to the attentions of the Poisson Chat. Well worth considering if you’re off to France… but don’t dismiss it for the UK too as carp really seem to love it.
