Manufacturer’s Overview

Special Crab is a combination of LT94 fish meal & Robin Red birdfood plus natural fish extracts, garlic and black pepper. Special Crab has an incredible track record and quite simply the fish recognise it as a food source from the moment they find it. It is our joint top seller, both here and in France.

It’s responsible for many big carp captures and really comes into its own as the temperatures rise in the spring. It produces the goods all through the summer period, right up to the temperatures dropping in the autumn. Carp will eat Special Crab during the winter months but the natural attractors used in its make up become trapped inside the bait in very cold water making it less attractive.

Verdict

Unlike some bait manufacturers Quest don’t make one base mix and then add different flavours to produce what they refer to as ‘a new range of baits’. Each type of boilie they make has been formulated from different ingredients by Quest boss and renowned bait expert Shaun Harrison.

Having caught carp on Special Crab here in the UK and in France, and seen the results of others catches on them I need no convincing that carp very often prefer them to other baits they have the choice of in the same swim.

Quick breakdown
Very quick breakdown

The ‘crab’ flavour has been around a long time in various guises and has a proven track record with carp. I should say that where strawberry is the standard sweet bait, Special Crab and its derivatives is the standard savoury one.

The texture of the boilies is that moist one that you know is fresh and oozing flavour, the sign of a quality boilie.

If you’re spoiled for choice when you look at the tackle dealer’s bait shelves, go for the banker – choose Special Crab.
