Penvose Farm 3/6/01

This is a relatively new and developing fishery offering twowell-stocked lakes and another under construction and due forstocking this autumn I believe.

Once again another glorious day (who says the sun shines on therighteous?) for the 25 anglers who turned out. Two sections werepegged, one on the top lake and one on the match lake. Recent formsuggested the top lake would be likely produce the best weights butnothing is ever certain in match fishing.

By the end of the day it was clear that the top lake had not livedup to expectations. In fact John Shirley, who had drawn the same pegon the top lake that he had won the Winter League match off some 6weeks earlier, had run to his peg only to be very disappointed.

Top honours went to Simon Poynter (Bill Knott Bookies) with alevel 27lb from peg 4 on the Match Lake. Starting on the waggler hetook roach on maggot before coming in on a short pole with corn toadd several carp. A final decisive switch to the long pole and maggotfished up in the water added more carp to swing the match hisway.

On the next peg, Alan Farnworth (Gwinear Peasants) worked withshort pole and paste. In the first half of the match he caught welland seemed to be out in front but bites slowed up towards the end andallowed Simon to steal the glory. Alan’s fish weighed 22lb 6oz forsecond place.

Current league leader, Graham Curnow (Clive’s Tackle) managed tohold on to the top spot with the 3rd place weight 16lb 12oz from peg13 facing the island on the match lake.

Paul Hancock (Threemilestone) recorded the 4th weight just behindGraham on 16lb 2oz and took the section by default. This left myselfin 5th place with 14lb.

Best weight from the top lake went to Matthew Wilson (Phoenix)with 14lb off peg 30 facing the new island. Lucky peg number 14 wasworth £ 10 to Ian Talbot but could have been £ 72 had hewon.

Two weeks time we move on to Oakside where silver fish will be theorder of the day (hooray!!) so goodbye ’til then.

Tight elastics.
