Round 8 Oakside 5/8/01
Another low turnout saw just 15 die-hards assembled at Oakside. Asthis was not really enough to make two sections it was pegged as one.To avoid the problems with weed encountered last time the deeperleft-hand bank from 29-48 was used. Unfortunately, sport was hit bybright sunshine and flat calm conditions resulting in verydisappointing weights.
Bob Noble (Gwinear Peasants) at peg 30 managed to find a few fishon the pole at 5m with caster over caster/hemp. His 12lb bag ofmainly roach was good enough for 1st place on the day.
Runner up Simon Poynter (Milo Clive’s Tackle & Bait) put in animpressive performance working hard for 10lb 2oz of mainly smallroach from a poor area with the anglers either side weighing onlyounces. Drawn at unfancied peg 45 he worked with the pole at 10mresorting to a 24 hook to 0.06 line to catch throughout the day. Healso won the prize for the longest sponsor’s name!
Next door to the winner at peg 31 Dave Barnes (Clive’s Tackle) put6lb 4oz on the scales to complete the frame.
At peg 38, Dave Taylor (St Columb Magic) was counting the cost ofseveral good fish lost in the nearside weed. His 4lb 13oz finishingjust outside the money. However, the golden peg gave him a £10consolation prize.
Mike Yates (Newtown Angling) drew peg 29 for the second time inthis series. His 3lb 7oz gave him 5th position, one better than lasttime.
Graham Curnow (Newtown Angling) on peg 40 managed 3lb dead whichwas worth 5 section points to put him back in the lead overall afteranother poor result for yours truly. The less said about that thebetter.
Three weeks time we convene again at Lakeview. See you there.
