Bolingey 21/12/03
With a cold NW wind and the threat of hail showers forecast it was a blessing to be fishing one of the more sheltered lakes in the county for this second match of the series. Recent form had suggested that things would be hard after the removal of most of the silver fish. All monies were in and the draw was made with just one person missing. Stuart Athay had apparently overslept but was on his way with an e.t.a. of around 45 mins. This would not seem very worthy of note except that he had the bait for 3-4 of the teams competing, including ours!
By the end of the match it was clear that things had gone pretty much as expected although it turned out to be a match of 3 very different sections despite the equal stocking level in each section.
A section in the first arm had been a real grueller with 5 blanks out of 9. The section was won by Barry Little (Team Newtown) with 16-0-0 from peg 47. The fish coming to pole and maggot.C section in the other arm had been hard but everyone had caught. Top scorer here was Team Newtown’s Alan Roberts with 20-13-8 from peg 38 in the corner. The fish again taken on pole an maggot from the open water and against the margins.
B section around the island was like a different world with nearly everyone returning 20lb plus taken mainly on the feeder. In a very close frame Del Coleman (Plymouth & District AC) 30-2-0 from peg 26 just pipped Nigel Sanders (Atlantic Tackle) 30-0-0 from peg 23. Del didn’t go in the superpool so he only picked up the section money but he did get a bottle of Whiskey for his efforts. Phil Watters (Newtown Angling) 29-4-0 was the third best on the day from peg 12 and good enough to take the superpool. Forth overall was Stuart Snipes (Looe AC) with 27-5-0 from peg 24.
Team-wise it was victory for Team Newtown with a 20 point total ahead of Plymouth on 16 putting them at the top of the league.
