Porth Reservoir 4/1/04
It was one of those rare moments, a match on Porth in January and barely a breath of wind, quite mild too. Could things be any better? Well yes actually, you could have an end peg draw. This was the case for my team (Newtown Angling) on this third round event at our favourite venue. Things looked promising, now all that remained to do was fish it.
The weigh-in revealed a clean sweep for Newtown with three section wins. Phil Watters fished a groundbait feeder with maggot hookbait at peg 14 in the Trees taking two bream, skimmers and perch for 15-6-0 and good enough for second overall.
B-Section in the Meadow was won by Graham Curnow who fished the long pole at peg 25 taking a mixture of roach and small skimmers for 14-3-0 and third overall.
On the North bank Mike Yates also fished the pole at peg 80. His 17-8-0 consisted of mainly roach with some skimmers and was easily enough to clinch the section and gave him first overall.
A switch to the pole part way through the match proved successful for Ben Field (Mid Cornwall Angling) putting 12-4-0 on the scales for fourth place overall.
Team-wise it was a clear win for Newtown Angling with 27 points pushing them to the top of the league. Mid Cornwall Angling came in second on the day with 19 points just ahead of Team Newtown on 18.
