Breaking news is that a new record barbel has been caught from the Great Ouse, home of a number of previous British barbel bests. Captor was Tony Gibson, a previous barbel record holder.
The fish, known as ‘The Traveller’, weighed 20lb 6oz and was caught late yesterday, 4th October.
The current record, caught from the Gt Ouse by Steve Curtin, weighed 19lb 6oz.
It has long been expected that the Ouse would break into the 20lb barbel league.
